Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo set the 2018 FIFA World Cup alight with his hat-trick against Spain, and his triple saw him climb into second spot among the top international goalscorers in history.

The Portuguese scored all three goals in his side's 3-3 draw with 2010 World Cup champions Spain on Friday.
In doing so, he become only the fourth player to score in four different editions of the global showpiece, joining the likes of Uwe Seeler, Pele and Miroslav Klose, while also matching Asamoah Gyan's record of netting in nine successive major tournaments.
Overall, Ronaldo has now scored 84 goals for Portugal, and has become the joint all-time record scorer in European history. He equalled Hungary legend Ferenc Puskas’ record of 84 strikes and moved into the joint second spot worldwide.
Only legendary Iran striker Ali Daei has scored more at international level after retiring with 109 goals in 2006.

Ronaldo is currently the leading goalscorer at the World Cup in Russia, having scored one strike more than second-placed Diego Costa and Dimitri Cheryshev.
