FA Cup Report: Swansea City v Sheffield Wednesday 27 February 2018
Result: Swansea City 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Date: 27 February 2018
Venue: Liberty Stadium
Swansea City secured their spot in the FA Cup quarterfinals after defeating Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Tuesday night.
The Premier League outfit dominated the opening 15 minutes of the first half but failed to register a meaningful effort at goal.
Sheffield carved out their first real opening after 29 minutes when Jacob Butterfield collected the ball on the edge of the box before forcing Kristoffer Nordfeldt into a superb save.
The game opened up in the final 10 minutes of the first half, with Swansea posing a real threat with the pace of Tammy Abrahams.
However, neither side could carve out a clear-cut chance in the closing stages and the sides went into the break goalless.
In an attempt to break the deadlock, Carlos Carvalhal introduced Jordan Ayew and Martin Olsson at the start of the second half.
Ayew made the perfect impact for the Swans when he bagged the game's opening goal with a clinical finish in the 55th minute.
The Championship outfit did not sit back as they brought on big striker Atdhe Nuhiu with just over 20 minutes remaining.
However, Swansea sealed the win with 15 minutes left on the clock as Abraham played in Nathan Dyer, who calmly slotted under Cameron Dawnson.
Swansea will now host the winner of Wednesday's FA Cup replay between Tottenham Hotspur and Rochdale in the quarterfinals.
