Result: Southampton 1-0 Arsenal
Date: 23 January 2021
Venue: St Mary's Stadium
There will be a new name on the FA Cup trophy this season after holders Arsenal were eliminated by Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners were without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who had to attend a family matter, as Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah lead the attack for Mikel Arteta's charges.
The hosts signalled their intent early on after James Ward-Prowse tried to catch Bern Leno out directly from a corner but his effort cracked the crossbar.
Southampton got their reward on 25 minutes when Kyle Walker-Peters' cross took a deflection of Gabriel and sailed into the far corner beyond the reach of Leno.
Arsenal, meanwhile, barely threatened in the opening 45 minutes as they only registered one effort on target from Martenelli which failed to trouble Fraser Forster.
After Danny Ings had struck the upright shortly after the break, Arteta opted for a double change as Thomas Partey and Bukayo Saka replaced Mohamed Elneny and Martinelli before the hour mark.
The Gunners carved out an opening on 68 minutes when Nicolas Pepe sent Nketiah through on goal, but Forster produced a fine save with an out-stretched leg.
Arteta threw on Alexandre Lacazette in the final 20 minutes as his final throw of the dice, looking to extend the defence of their title.
Even with the introduction of the in-form Lacazette, the Gunners were unable to find a way to goal as the Saints advance to the fifth round.
