FA Cup Report: Leicester City v Chelsea 18 March 2018
Result: Leicester City 1-2 Chelsea (AET)
Date: 18 March 2018
Venue: King Power Stadium
Chelsea progressed to FA Cup semi-finals as they defeated Leicester City 2-1 after extra-time thanks to a winning goal from Pedro Rodriguez.
The Foxes looked lively in the early stages of the encounter, with Riyad Mahrez and Kelechi Iheanacho linking up well.
Despite the home side's domination, they struggled to carve out chances, while the Blues showed no real attacking intent in the opening 20 minutes.
After a quiet period in the half, Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock on 42 minutes when Willian skipped past a couple defenders before picking out Morata, who curled the ball beyond Kasper Schmeichel.
The Foxes should have been level on 53 minutes when Jamie Vardy raced through on goal but he somehow skied his effort over the crossbar.
Claude Puel opted for a change on 67 minutes as the in-effective Iheanacho made way for Shinji Okazaki as they pushed for an equaliser.
The home side were level on 76 minutes when Vardy rifled the ball home from six-yards out after a goal-mouth scramble in the box.
Morata had a chance to snatch a win in the 88th minute but the Spaniard failed to slot past Schmeichel from close range and the game went into extra-time.
However, substitute Pedro handed Chelsea the lead in the 105th minute with a fine header from close range.
That proved to be the final bit of goal-mouth action of the half as Chelsea held on for the win.
