FA Cup - Fifth Round
Result: Preston North-End 1-3 Manchester United
Date: 16 February 2015
Venue: Deepdale Stadium
Manchester United came back from a goal down to beat Preston North-End 3-1 in the FA Cup Fifth Round on Monday.
The visitors came close to opening the scoring in the 19th minute when Shaw sent a low cross that Wayne Rooney pounced on, but his first-time shot was well blocked by Welsh.
United failed to make the most of their superior possession in the first half, and it was Preston who broke the deadlock just after the interval. Davies rose high to play the ball on for Garner to set it up for Scott Laird to finish with a powerful shot.
United found their equaliser in the 65th minute. Antonio Valencia pierced the defence and cut it back for Ander Herrera who placed his shot in the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-1.
The visitors were in the lead for the first time in the 72nd minute. Valencia instigated another attack as he surged down the right flank before sending a chipped cross towards Marouane Fellaini who netted on his second attempt after the first shot was blocked.
The result was secured in the 88th minute as the Red Devils slotted a penalty. Stuckmann brought Rooney down clumsily in the area, handing them the spot-kick. Rooney stepped up and fired home a precision penalty to seal their progression to the quarter-finals.
United will face Arsenal in the last eight, on the seventh or eighth of March.
