Manchester United progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, after they best West Ham United 2-1 at the Boleyn Ground.

Wayne Rooney made a return to the Red Devils squad but had to settle for a spot in the bench. While, Marouane Fellaini was a handed a start by Louis Van Gaal.

It took the visitors quite a well to get going, but they registered the first effort at goal in the 17th minute when Fellaini forced Darren Randolph into reflex stop from 12-yards out.

United squandered a chance to take the lead in the 35th minute, as Marcus Rashford did well evade a few challenges before teeing up Jesse Lingard, who fired straight at Randolph from close range.

The Hammers looked threatening on the break, but never really tested David De Gea throughout the opening 45 minutes, as the sides went into break scoreless.

The Red Devils eventually broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half, as Rashford collected a pass from Anthony Martial before placing a wonderful effort into the top corner.

United doubled their lead in the 67th minute through Marouane Fellaini, as the Belgian turned home Martial's cross-cum-shot from six-yards out.

West Ham managed to reduce the deficit in the 78th minute when Andy Carroll's knockdown found James Tomkins, who headed home from three-yards out, 2-1.

De Gea ensured United progressed to the next round, as the Spaniard produced a stunning save to deny Chiekhou and Carroll in quick succession, as United held on for the win.
