FA Cup Quarterfinal
Result: Everton 2-0 Chelsea
Date: 12 March 2016
Venue: Goodison Park
Romelu Lukaku netted a brace to hand Everton a 2-0 win over Chelsea in their FA Cup quarterfinal tie on Saturday evening.
The opening 20 minutes proved to be a stop-start, with both sides guilty committing a number of fouls, which led to a couple scuffles.
The first real chance of the half arrived after 43 minutes when Willian's curling free-kick was tipped over the crossbar by Joel Robles.
It proved to be quiet opening stanza for Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois, who hardly a difficult save to make.
Everton nearly went ahead shortly after the halftime when Funes Mori rose well to meet a corner from left but the Argentine headed over the crossbar.
Diego Costa then squandered a chance to hand the Blues the lead in the 58th minute, as the striker placed his effort wide of the far post with only Robles to beat.
The home side eventually took the lead in the 78th minute, as Romelu Lukaku powered into the box, before firing home into the bottom corner.
The Belgian forward was not done there, as he latched onto a pass from Ross Barkley, before calmly firing through the legs of Courtois, 2-0.
Chelsea's evening went from bad to worse in the 84th minute when Costa picked up his second booking of the game and was given an early shower.
Everton also finished the game with 10 men, after Gareth Barry was given his marching order, after picking up his second yellow card three minutes later.
