Result: Netherlands 2-3 Czech Republic

Date: 13 October 2015

The Netherlands have failed to qualify for Euro 2016 after they lost 3-2 to the Czech Republic in their final Group A qualifier.

Anwar El Ghazi went close after just two minutes when the Ajax Amsterdam midfielder cut in from the right, before forcing Petr Cech into a saved.

The visitors' first opening arrived in the 12th minute as Vladimir Darida rifled an effort just wide of the post from a tight angle.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 24th minute when Pavel Kaderabek weaved his way into the area, before lobbing Jeroen Zoet to hand the Czechs the lead.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 35th minute as Gabriel Selassie played in Tomas Necid, who in-turn picked out Josef Sural to slot past Zoet from close range.

However, despite have the numerical advantage, the Dutch fell further behind in the 66th minute when Robin Van Persie headed the ball into his own net.

Cech came to the visitors' rescue in the 54th minute, as the Arsenal shot-stopper pulled off a fine save to keep out Van Persie's volley from close range.

Danny Blind's side did pull a goal back three minutes later when Klaas Jan Huntelaar headed home Wesley Sneijder's cross at the near post.

Van Persie made amends for his earlier own-goal, as the striker held off the challenge from Kalas to turn home Bas Dosts' flick to reduced the deficit.

Czech Republic nearly restored their two-goal advantage in the 88th minute but Kalas could only steer his effort wide of the upright from inside the area.

However, the visitors managed to hold on to claim the win and seal top spot in the group, while the Dutch miss out on a trip to the European Championships.
