With former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane being linked with a move to Chelsea, an Arsenal legend has revealed why he thinks the Premier League would benefit from the arrival of the UEFA Champions League record-breaking coach.
Zidane, who won three successive UCL titles with Los Blancos, is reportedly being earmarked by the Blues and Serie A giants Juventus to take over from their current managers.
With Maurizio Sarri under fire at Stamford Bridge – with Chelsea having been on the end of humiliating losses to Manchester City (6-0) and Bournemouth (4-0) in the past month, and the now-infamous substitution row with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Carabao Cup final – the writing appears to be on the wall for the former Napoli boss, who replaced Antonio Conte in July 2018.
Former Arsenal star Robert Pires, who formed part of The Invincibles side that went the whole season unbeaten in the 2003/04 Premier League campaign, has now discussed the rumours linking Zidane with the Chelsea hot seat.
"It’s a very strange situation with Chelsea and how they treat their managers," the Frenchman told bwin news.
"Sarri is a very good manager and he performed very well with Napoli, but it's hard to see him at the club next season. There appears to be a lot of player power at Chelsea that he is struggling to overcome like many have before him.
"I think Zidane would be a very good appointment at Chelsea. He would demand respect from the Chelsea players and control the dressing room as a result of everything he has achieved both on the pitch as a player and on the bench as a manager.
"He's a winner and a warrior. He's had great success in the Champions League, which is attractive to the Chelsea owner. It would be very good news for the Premier League if Zidane moved to England."
