Yaya Toure: Why I Would Snub Ivory Coast Call-Up

By Kurt Buckerfield - Jul 27, 2017 09:45 AM @KurtLaduma

African superstar Yaya Toure has revealed why he would snub Ivory Coast if he was called up to the national team.

Reports: Conte Eyes Four More Chelsea Signings

The Manchester City midfielder, who has represented his country on 97 occasions, has snubbed all call-ups to represent his nation since 2015, the same year he captained Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations victory.

Toure, however, has suggested that he was not fully appreciated when he was playing for his country, saying that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Samuel Eto'o were never treated badly by their nation's fans, which is why he would reject any future call-up.

"No," he said when asked if he would honour a future call-up, according to ESPN.

"To be honest, I was very sad at what is happening for my country. Sometimes you're not the king in your country, but you're a king outside

"I think the way I've been treated, I was living in my mind like I was the most hated person in this country because they're always creating things with my big brothers, and always create problems between players.

"Cristiano Ronaldo, it's never happened to him in his country. I think (Cameroon's) Samuel Eto'o was fine, he was much loved in his country. Me, I was worse.

"Any problems that happened in this national team was me. It made me sad the way I was feeling, like I was the most hated person. What I was trying to do was show them that I love the country (despite) what happened to me.

"I promised my wife and my family and friends I would bring them a trophy (Afcon), and then I left."

Neymar Reveals Future To Messi & Suarez?

Toure has enjoyed a successful career, winning trophies with both FC Barcelona and Manchester City, and has also won four African Footballer of the Year awards, from 2011 to 2014.

Now I believe that no African country will win the World Cup, not because of talent but because of Preparation, not wanting to be told the truth & not respecting someone who has worked hard to be where they are.. In short jealousy is killing AFRICA
