Newly appointed Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that he received a message from Frank Lampard shortly after his appointment was confirmed this week.
Tuchel was appointed as Lampard's successor at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, before beginning his reign with a stalemate against Wolverhampton Wanderers the following day.
While the Englishman's departure was met with criticism from some pundits and former players, the German tactician, who revealed that Lampard has sent him a message wishing him "all the best" at the club, hopes that backlash does not transcend to the fans.
"I hope not (backlash from supporters) because that would be hard on the team," Tuchel said, as per the Daily Mail.
"The fans are so close and behind the team, it makes a big difference. I know it was a big disappointment for the fanbase that Frank was sacked and I said before, I have the biggest respect.
"I was a huge fan of Frank as a player. I had a message to wish me all the best.
"The club made clear to me this is not my fault, I cannot change the situation for him.
"The decision was made and I was handed the opportunity."
