The Nigerian is only the seventh African footballer to play for United, and will stay with the Red Devils until 31 January 2021 after the Premier League side extended his loan from parent club Shanghai Shenhua.

He is reportedly earning €146 000 (R2.8 million) a week at Old Trafford, making him one of United's highest-paid players, and is in fifth position among the top-earning Africans in the EPL.

It is understood, though, that United are covering just a portion of the €336 000 (R6.4 million) wage Ighalo would earn per week with his parent club.

The 30-year-old is understood to have turned down a deal worth a whopping €448 000 (R8.5 million) a week in order to stay in England with the club he supported growing up.

That offer would have made him one of the highest-paid players in the game, and the highest-earning African footballer in the world.

However, this title currently belongs to Mohamed Salah, who earns more than any other African star from his basic salary and endorsement deals, according to Forbes.
