English statistics and football money expert Nick Harris, who is also the editor of Sporting Intelligence, has done some research into the "major trophies" picked up by English sides, defining "major trophies" as league titles, the two main cups in England and titles won in European competitions, excluding super cups.
City claimed their 16th major piece of silverware after Manchester United failed to beat West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, and now have five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, five League Cups (or the Carabao Cup, as it is known this season) and one European Cup Winners' Cup in their trophy cabinet.
The 16 trophies see City sit in seventh position among the most successful clubs in England. Tottenham Hotspur have lifted one more piece of silverware than City, while Aston Villa have won 20 titles.
Chelsea have lifted 22 trophies, while Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are the three most successful clubs in English history. The Gunners has won 22 major trophies while the Reds sit on 41, just one behind United.
Harris does not consider domestic or European super cups, such as the FA Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, nor the FIFA Club World Cup as "major trophies".
