With Algeria superstar Riyad Mahrez having completed a £60 million (R1.05 billion) move from Leicester City to Premier League champions Manchester City on Tuesday, here are the 10 most expensive African players in football history.

Click through the gallery above to see who the 10 most expensive African players in football history are, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old frontman, who tried to get the move over the line in January, became the Citizens' most expensive signing ever, and also Africa's second most expensive ever, this week.

The continent's most costliest player is somebody who is not well known, but commanded a hefty price tag when he moved to China. DR Congo's Cedric Bakambu left LaLiga outfit Villarreal for Beijing Guoan for the whopping fee of £65 million (R1.14 billion) in January 2017.

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the third most expensive African in history. The Gabon international moved to the Emirates from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for £56 million (R983 million) in January this year.

2017/18 UEFA Champions League runners-up Liverpool own the players who are in fourth, fifth and sixth places. Guinea international Naby Keita cost the Reds £52.75 million (R926 million) million from RasenBallsport Leipzig, while Egypt star Mohamed Salah came with a price tag of £36.9 million (R647 million) from AS Roma.

Senegal's Sadio Mane became the most expensive African football player in history when he swapped Southampton for Merseyside in June 2016. The winger cost the Anfield club £35 million (R614 million) at the time, a fee that would be dubbed a steal in today's market.

Making up the rest of the 10 most expensive Africans ever, according to ESPN, are Ivory Coast's Eric Bailly and Wilfried Bony, Algeria's Islam Slimani and Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor.

It is sad not to see a South African from this top 10. Reason, we are so obsessed playing for a R10M Absa Championship, and we have selfish club owners who set a barrier to young and talented players who want to ply trade abroad. Mzantsi its a shame
