Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the third most expensive African in history. The Gabon international moved to the Emirates from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for £56 million (R983 million) in January this year.
2017/18 UEFA Champions League runners-up Liverpool own the players who are in fourth, fifth and sixth places. Guinea international Naby Keita cost the Reds £52.75 million (R926 million) million from RasenBallsport Leipzig, while Egypt star Mohamed Salah came with a price tag of £36.9 million (R647 million) from AS Roma.
Senegal's Sadio Mane became the most expensive African football player in history when he swapped Southampton for Merseyside in June 2016. The winger cost the Anfield club £35 million (R614 million) at the time, a fee that would be dubbed a steal in today's market.
Making up the rest of the 10 most expensive Africans ever, according to ESPN, are Ivory Coast's Eric Bailly and Wilfried Bony, Algeria's Islam Slimani and Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor.
