Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been sent a strong message after he went back on his words about wanting to stay at Inter Milan.
Early in June, the Belgium international assured Nerazzurri supporters he would be staying at the club for the 2021/22 season after the high-profile departures of manager Antonio Conte and right-back Achraf Hakimi.
However, in August, Lukaku completed a stunning return to the Blues after Inter accepted a bid of about €115 million (R2 billion) for his services.
With those initial comments rubbing some fans the wrong way, former Inter striker Diego Milito has now insisted the 28-year-old should never have made those statements.
"There is one thing you should never do: make a promise you can't keep," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"A player like him, who has given so much, can decide to go elsewhere, but the fans are disappointed precisely because of those comments."
Lukaku spent two seasons in Italy following his move from Manchester United in 2019, scoring 64 goals and assisting a further 16 strikes in 95 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
The forward's exploits also contributed to Inter claiming their first Serie A title in a decade.
