With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of this season and Marouane Fellaini and several others being tipped to leave the Red Devils, United are expected to make a few moves in the next window.

OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, 26, is said to be one of the stars the Red Devils are taking a close look at. The Ivorian almost joined FC Barcelona at the beginning of the campaign, but after the move fell through, United might feel they can convince him of a transfer to England.

It has been claimed that Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is also being tracked by Mourinho, although it is believed he could cost United about £80 million (R1.3 billion). The Serbian is considered to be one of Europe's most exciting talents, and recently admitted he is flattered by the interest in him.

Napoli's Jorginho is another Serie A player said to be on United's shortlist. However, the Manchester giants are likely to face stiff competition from other clubs in Europe, including Liverpool.

Real Madrid's deep-lying playmaker Toni Kroos has also been heavily spoken of as one of the club's main targets for 2018/19, as has Chelsea winger Willian, who has played under Mourinho previously and who has been in excellent form of late for the Blues, scoring four goals in his past three games.

A surprise target for United is Tottenham Hotspurs' Victor Wanyama, who has been reintroduced to his team rather slowly after returning from a long-term injury, which has put a few clubs on alert.
