According to The Sun, the Citizens are on the lookout for another defender, and are interested in Bayern Munich stalwart Jerome Boateng, a former player of theirs who could become available in the coming months.
The Germany international left the Premier League leaders seven years ago after receiving limited game time at the club, and has since gone on to establish himself as a world-class defender.
Guardiola, who worked closely with the player at Bayern, is said to be a massive fan of the 29-year-old who helped him win three Bundesliga titles between 2014 and 2016.
Boateng is considered a versatile defender who is naturally a centre-back but can play out wide, especially on the right-hand side.
There are rumours Manchester United, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are also monitoring Boateng's situation so a bidding war could be on the cards if the Citizens do not act quickly, with Bayern believed to want as much as £50 million for the player.
Boateng has made 24 appearances for Bayern so far this season, scoring two goals and assisting a further four strikes.
