Interim Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly not keen on signing an African superstar – said to be valued at £80 million (R1.5 billion) – rumoured to have been one of former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho's main targets before he was sacked.
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is believed to have attracted interest from a number of Europe's biggest clubs, most notably United, who reportedly identified the Senegalese international as their primary transfer target under former coach Mourinho.
However, with the Portuguese tactician having been sacked in December 2018, and United's form subsequently improving under Solskjaer, the Red Devils' interest in Koulibaly has waned.
According to The Sun, the Norwegian tactician has £80 million to spend on a world-class centre-back. However, with Solskjaer said to be happy with the current defenders at his disposal, the 46-year-old could look use the funds to rope in a top winger instead, with United said to be keen on 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, but face stiff competition from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Should United pursue the former Manchester City player, the teenager could end up costing them in excess of £100 million (R1.9 billion) as they would have to fend off fellow suitors for the highly-rated Englishman's services.
Solskjaer is also reportedly keeping tabs on Juventus star Douglas Costa and Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, who was previously linked with a move to the Manchester club.
