Although currently second in the Premier League, the Red Devils have had an inconsistent campaign and are currently 16 points behind arch-rivals Manchester City.
The only silverware Mourinho's men can realistically walk away with this season is the FA Cup, in which the English giants will face North London side Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese tactician has started plotting his club's transfer targets for next season and it appears he will be going in for a left back, a right back, a centre half and two central midfielders.
The players believed to be on Mourinho's wish list are Napoli star Jorginho, Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred, Spurs' contract rebel Toby Alderweireld, Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin and Juventus' Alex Sandro, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini and Matteo Darmian all expected to leave the club at the end of this campaign.
Mourinho will definitely lose one of his stalwarts in Michael Carrick, who has announced that he will be retiring from the game once the season is over.
