Goalkeeper David de Gea has been United's standout performer over the past few seasons, but his contract is set to expire in June 2019.
Jose Mourinho recently indicated that the club is working on offering the shot-stopper a new contract that could keep him at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.
However, Los Blancos have continuously been linked with the 27-year-old for years now, and could make a new attempt to sign him in the next transfer window or snatch him up for free the following season.
Initially, De Gea, who is believed to earn £200 000 (R3.4 million) a week at United currently, was reportedly happy with an improved offer of £300 000 (R5 million) a week.
However, according to The Sun, things have changed since the arrival of Sanchez at Old Trafford. The Chilean became the club's new record earner after agreeing to a weekly deal worth a whopping £500 000 (R8.4 million).
The English publication has claimed that a source close to the player told them that De Gea is ready to demand £375 000 (R6.3 million) a week, which would make him the second highest paid player at United.
"The financial reality has completely altered for David and his people in terms of what his next deal should be worth," the insider told The Sun.
"Last year, it was thought getting closer to £250 000 a week would be realistic. He has seen United have even deeper pockets than even they first imagined. He is ready to go to a lot more."
