According to the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils want to hand Spain goalkeeper David de Gea a new contract in the coming weeks.
The former Atletico Madrid No. 1, who is said to be earning about £190 000 (R3.2 million) a week, has 18 months left on his current deal, with a one-year option to extend.
Rumour has it that the English giants are set to open talks with De Gea’s representatives over a new contract worth £250 000 (R4.2 million) a week, which would make him one of the club's top earners.
Manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that they are working on a new deal for the Spaniard.
"The option, it's obvious that we're not going to let the option disappear," Mourinho said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
"A goalkeeper like he is and obviously a club that wants to be better and better and better, we're not going to let that year option go away. But obviously, we're going to try.
"(United executive vice-chairman Ed) Woodward is not on holiday. He barely has holidays. Of course, he's going to try to give him a contract that keeps him here for much longer than that option that, of course, we're going to execute.
"I don’t know if talks are already underway. I just trust the board and the work they do.
"I don't negotiate players, I don't discuss numbers and contracts. I just say what is obvious. Anyone of you would say the same – David is to keep."

The English side will hope the deal, if accepted, will ward off any offers from Real Madrid, who have been linked with De Gea for some time now.
