According to English publication The Sun, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have presented the Red Devils with the opportunity to pick up Italy international Marco Verratti plus cash in return for the former Juventus midfielder.
It is unclear whether or not the Old Trafford side is willing to depart with their club record signing ahead of the upcoming season, but the French team has seemingly tried their luck regardless.
Les Parisiens are apparently looking to bring in a marquee player in the current window, but may need to part ways with one of their prized assets in order to do so.
Sources close to PSG have suggested that Verratti is close to agreeing a new deal with the Paris club, which could see him earn a whopping £9 million (R161.8 million) a year.
The new contract is no indication that the Italian midfielder will stay at the Parc des Princes, however, but will ensure that he earns well no matter where he ends up.
The former Pescara star has made 239 appearances for the Ligue 1 side since joining them in 2012, scoring eight goals and assisting a further 43 strikes.
