According to Diario Gol, the Portuguese manager is still keen on trying to lure either Real's Luka Modric or Barca's Ivan Rakitic to United.

It is believed that Mourinho is looking to strengthen his side to make sure they are strong enough to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.

It has been claimed that Pogba's future at the club is uncertain following his reported row with the tactician, which could see him seek a replacement for the Frenchman.

Michael Carrick is also retiring at the end of the season, while Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini will be out of contract if he does not sign a new deal before then.

It is believed that Modric has been a target of Mourinho's for a few seasons, while Rakitic is another midfielder he is said to have been keen to work with.
