The Red Devils improved their league position from last year by finishing second in the Premier League this season, but are not happy with the fact that they ended 19 points behind eventual champions Manchester City.

According to the Daily Metro, the Old Trafford club is looking to spend about £150 million in the coming transfer window in order to try to catch their neighbours next season.

Mourinho is apparently hoping he can cut the club's wage budget in the coming months so that he can bring more quality into his squad.

It has been reported that Matteo Darmian, Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw could all leave the club, which will then make way for Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose, Juventus star Alex Sandro and Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Serbian international, Milinkovic-Savic, is expected to cost £80 million (R1.33 billion), which would see him become United's second most expensive signing ever if the transfer is completed.
