According to the Daily Mirror, The Portuguese tactician wants to bring in two new central defenders in the place of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in the next transfer window.
The pair were highly criticised after the Red Devils' 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday in the Premier League, and there are now rumours circulating that Mourinho is ready to shake things up at the back.
The Old Trafford-based side have seen their rivals Liverpool and Manchester City splash £75 million (R1.24 billion) and £57 million (R942 million) on centre backs Virgil van Dijk and Aymeric Laporte in the latest transfer window, and the former Chelsea boss feels that he may have to follow suit.
The English publication believes that Mourinho’s side have identified Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and Real Madrid star Raphael Varane as replacements for Smalling and Jones.
