With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini set to be a free agent, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly earmarked two midfielders to replace them.

According to ESPN, the Portuguese tactician has identified Ivory Coast international Jean Michael Seri and Serbian star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as suitable replacements for the Englishman and the Belgian.

Although Carrick's future is already decided, there is still a cloud hanging over Fellaini’s, but many suggest he will leave the Red Devils on a free transfer at the end of this campaign, as he wishes to play more regularly.

Nice midfielder, Seri, has been on Mourinho’s radar for quite some time already and with him having a second impressive season in Ligue 1, he is now seen as the perfect replacement for the veteran, Carrick.

Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic has been one of Serie A’s standout players this season and although his name well known among many, he has had many clubs around Europe wanting his signature. If Fellaini ends up leaving Old Trafford in the coming months then the 23-year-old is expected to replace him in the squad.

The report suggests Manchester United are expected to pay in the region of £35 - £50 million (R589 – R841 million ) for either player, which is seen as a bit of a bargain in today’s inflated transfer market.
