Reports: Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho Agrees £80m Deal For Mega-Signing
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly a few steps away from making his first big signing for next season, with the club said to have agreed an £80 million (R1.35 billion) deal for a Serbia international.
According to The Sun, Lazio superstar Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is set to be the Portuguese tactician's first buy ahead of the new campaign.
It is believed there has been a breakthrough in negotiations between the Premier League giants and the Serie A side, and a deal may be announced in a couple of weeks' time.
If the transfer goes through, the 23-year-old will become the second most expensive arrival ever in the English top flight, after Paul Pogba's £89 million (R1.51 billion) transfer from Juventus to United two years ago.
Mourinho is apparently desperate to sign a world-class midfielder, with former England international Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of this season and Belgian star Marouane Fellaini yet to sign a new deal.
Should Milinkovic-Savic sign for the Red Devils, he would be lining up next to his countryman Nemanja Matic in the club's midfield.
Interestingly, the player is represented by former Chelsea star Mateja Kezman, who was one of Mourinho's first signings upon his arrival in England in 2004.
Milinkovic-Savic has made 46 appearances for Lazio so far this season, scoring 13 goals and assisting a further nine strikes.
