Reports: Liverpool Identify €60m January Target

Liverpool could reportedly splash the cash in the January transfer window in order to beat Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur to a €60 million target.

The Reds have only spent €60 million (R1.1 billion) twice before: when they paid Roma €62.5 million (R1.2 billion) for goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and Southampton €84.65 million (R1.6 billion) for centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

However, the latter's injury could see Jurgen Klopp become active in January, according to ESPN.

The German tactician opted against signing another central defender in the most recent transfer window, despite Dejan Lovren joining Zenit St. Petersburg.

The club, though, is now expected to strengthen in the January window after Van Dijk was effectively ruled out for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

It is claimed that Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is high on Klopp's wish list after reportedly almost joining Spurs in October.

In the end, the Lilywhites could not afford Inter's €60 million asking price, but are expected to try to sign the player again in the coming window.

However, the Reds' interest could throw a spanner in Mourinho's attempts to sign the 25-year-old.
