Reports: Jose Mourinho Wants Arsenal Star To Follow Alexis Sanchez To Manchester United
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly wants a certain Arsenal star to join Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford.
According to The Independent, Germany international Mesut Ozil is being closely monitored by the Red Devils boss, who is keen to work with him again.
The attacking midfielder is in the final six months of his contract at the North London club, and is apparently looking to move on at the end of the season.
Ozil has failed to negotiate a new contract with the Gunners, with it being rumoured that he is demanding £300 000 (R5 million) a week to sign an extension.
Former Newcastle United striker and now pundit Alan Shearer thinks Ozil could follow Sanchez out of the Emirates, and could even join the Chilean at Old Trafford.
"Football needs City to have a major challenger and right now United are the best bet," Shearer wrote in a column for The Sun.
"Believe me, money does not come into it as much as you would think, for some, yes, but, fundamentally, top players want to challenge themselves. Which is why Sanchez understandably was not prepared to hang around at Arsenal anymore, where the ambition is lacking with a manager and a club that have lost their way.
"It is not just Sanchez who thinks it. Mesut Ozil had a great game on Saturday but he will be a free agent in the summer too... United might even open the door for him."
The former Real Madrid star has made 20 appearances for Arsenal so far this season, scoring four goals and assisting six further strikes.
