Reports: Jose Mourinho Attempts To Hijack Pep Guardiola's Alexis Sanchez Deal
Alexis Sanchez seemed nailed on to join Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, but Jose Mourinho has now reportedly made a last-minute attempt to hijack the deal.
The 29-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Citizens, and it was seemingly only a question of when and not if he would join the Premier League leaders.
City reportedly submitted a £20 million (R335 million) offer for Sanchez earlier this week, and are also apparently prepared to sign him on a free deal at the end of the campaign if Arsenal would refuse to sell him in January.
However, United have now thrown their name into the hat, according The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Mourinho's side have reportedly bid £25 million (R419 million) – £5 million (R84 million) more than City – for the player's services, and would also be prepared to pay Sanchez more than the reported £250 000 (R4.2 million) in weekly wages he agreed with City.
According to the report, Mourinho is believed to be confident of winning the race for Sanchez's signature.
United are also said to have offered Arsenal the opportunity to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has seemingly has fallen out of favour under Mourinho, in a swap deal, but the Armenian's high wages could be a stumbling block.
