According to German newspaper Bild, Mourinho has agreed a three-year deal with the English giants ahead of next season, with United fans keen to see Louis van Gaal head for the exit doors.
The Dutchman has been under huge pressure at the club as he and his side continue to battle for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
With the news that Mourinho to United is a done deal, there is also speculation that the Portuguese has made Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic his No. 1 target.
The Swede has been linked with the Old Trafford club in recent weeks, but it was rumoured the forward would only make a move to United if Van Gaal was sacked.
