Premier League outfits Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with a Bundesliga star who is believed to be on FC Barcelona's transfer shortlist.
According to ESPN, German champions Bayern Munich are open to selling playmaker Thiago Alcantara in this window, and the two English clubs have made contact regarding the midfielder.
The Spain international has struggled with injuries since moving to the Allianz Arena, but is still widely recognised as one of the most naturally gifted midfielders on the planet.
The 27-year-old, who could cost £50 million (R872 million), is also being monitored by the Blaugrana and Manchester City, who are said to be looking to bring in a creative midfielder after losing out on former Napoli star Jorginho to Chelsea.
It has been suggested that the Bavarians' new manager Niko Kovac wants to trim down his large squad ahead of his first season in charge of the club, and apparently sees Alcantara as a player who he can do without.
The FC Barcelona youth product has made 153 appearances for Bayern since joining the club in 2013, scoring 25 goals and assisting a further 27 strikes.
