According to reports, Raheem Sterling is on the verge of finalising a deal that would see him leave Manchester City this transfer window.
Madrid Stars Mock Salah After UCL Final Loss
With the player having spent the past seven years at the Etihad Stadium, fans may have seen the last of Sterling in a City jersey, with reports claiming that Chelsea are growing in confidence of signing the English forward.
The 27-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his deal with the reigning Premier League champions, and with the acquisitions of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, competition for places in City's frontline will be heating up considerably.
The England winger started just five out of a possible 12 UEFA Champions League games last season, and was an unused substitute eight times in the Premier League last term.
According to The Athletic, the Kingston, Jamaica, native has discussed his willingness to make the move to west London with his loved ones, as well as what it would be like to work under Thomas Tuchel.
The same report suggests that one potential issue that could arise in the proposed move is the agreement of a transfer fee between the two clubs.
The Blues will be looking to find an adequate replacement for the seemingly outgoing Romelu Lukaku, who is looks set to return to Inter Milan just a year after his departure from the Italian capital, and it is believed that Sterling could help fill that void.
Lukaku scored only eight league goals for Chelsea last season, significantly less than the 13 Sterling netted during the 2021/22 domestic campaign.
Some also feel the Englishman, who is more adept at playing across the forward line, is perhaps better suited to Tuchel's side than the Belgian.
Sterling's 131 goals in 339 appearances for the Citizens is perhaps an indication the former Liverpool prodigy will be able to help remedy Chelsea's relative struggle to find the back of the net frequently in the 2021/22 campaign.
