A newly-rich Premier League club is reportedly not giving up hope of appointing Jose Mourinho as their next manager.
Despite the excellent work Eddie Howe has done since his appointment at Newcastle United, it seems his position as head coach could be under serious threat.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Magpies' hierarchy still dreams of hiring the Portuguese tactician, who is currently in charge of Italian side Roma and is said to have rejected an approach from the English club following their takeover last year, perhaps as he had joined Roma only at the start of the campaign.
Mourinho was reportedly among a list of high-profile managers wanted by Newcastle before they eventually settled for Howe.

It was apparently the ex-Manchester United and Chelsea boss' European pedigree that had attracted the Tyneside-based side to him, with Mourinho readying for yet another continental final in the coming days.
Following Roma's semi-final win over Leicester City, they will go up against PSV Eindhoven in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League later this month.
Mourinho has also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy twice, with Porto and with Inter Milan, and claimed the UEFA Europa League title with Manchester United in 2017.
In October last year, when probed about speculation linking him with Newcastle, he admitted that his special connection with Magpies legend Sir Bobby Robson, whom he worked with at Barcelona, has given him a strong attachment to the city and the club's supporters.
Mourinho has a contract in Rome until 2024.
