Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly emerged as a shock for one of the club's biggest rivals ahead of next season.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the current season, but there has been no indication if he will sign an extension or move elsewhere.
Pogba has been linked with Real Madrid and Juventus in recent months, but reports in England claim that Manchester City are now interested in making a move.
The Daily Mail have reported that the reigning Premier League champions are exploring the option of signing the midfielder from their cross-town rivals.
Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking to add a versatile midfielder next season with captain Fernandinho expected to leave when his contract expires in June.
The report adds that under transfer regulations, the Citizens are unable to make a formal offer to the midfielder as he plays for another English club which puts the side at a disadvantage.
City, however, do have the financial strength to offer the 29-year-old a big deal as he is currently earning a reported £290,000-per-week at Old Trafford.
Pogba wouldn't be the first United player to make the switch across town after Carlos Tevez joined City from United in 2009.
