Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are reportedly set to beat FC Barcelona to the signing of a midfielder believed to be worth £61 million.
Ajax Amsterdam star Frenkie de Jong has caught the eye with his performances in the UEFA Champions League as well as the UEFA Nations with the Netherlands.
As a result, the 21-year-old has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including City and Barcelona.
However, according to the Daily Mirror, the Citizens have beat out competition from the Catalan giants and are close to sealing a deal with the player, who is said to be valued at £61 million (R1.09 billion) by his club.
It is believed that De Jong is keen to play under Guardiola after seeing the way he has improved some young players at City.
The midfielder has made 19 appearances across all competitions for Ajax so far this season, and also has four caps with his national side's senior team.
