With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez set for long-term spells on the sidelines, here are five defenders Liverpool could sign in the January transfer window.

After Van Dijk underwent surgery on a torn ACL earlier this month, Gomez had surgery this week after sustaining a serious knee injury while training with England.
Joel Matip remains the Reds' only senior central defender in the side but he only returned to action just before the international break.
The Mirror have listed Ozan Kabak (Schalke), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig), Ben White (Brighton), David Alaba (Bayern Munich) and former Reds product Conor Coady (Wolves) as five possible players to sign.
Upamecano would be the high-profile signing as the French defender has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Two of the five defenders on the list currently ply their trade in the Premier League, although both White and Coady recently signed a new deal with their respective clubs.
