New EPL Signing Goes Missing In Suspected Plane Crash

Cardiff City’s record-signing Emiliano Sala, who only joined the club three days ago, was on a plane that reportedly went missing on Monday night, with many fearing the aircraft has crashed.

Sala rejected the opportunity to sign mega-deal with a Chinese club and instead penned in a deal with Neil Warnock's side, joining from French outfit Nantes for £15 million (R269 million).

Cardiff snapped up Sala's services in the hope that his goals would help them retain their Premier League status – he is currently the fifth highest scorer in Ligue 1 this season with 12 goals, behind Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Nicolas Pepe and Neymar.

After signing a deal with the Premier League outfit on Saturday, the 28-year-old was expected to turn up for training with his new teammates on Tuesday, but failed to do so, resulting in "genuine concern" at Cardiff about the player's whereabouts.

French police have reportedly told AFP that the Argentine forward was indeed on board the plane.

Fears were elevated when Cardiff Airport confirmed the aircraft was due to arrive from Nantes but had not, with a spokeswoman claiming that there were no further details.

"HM Coastguard helicopters from Solent and Newquay have been helping to search overnight with nothing found," the spokeswoman was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

According to the same publication, Guernsey Police has revealed that a Piper Malibu – a single-engine plane that is able to carry up to five passengers – has been missing since 8.30pm on Monday night.

The Guernsey Police have since provided an update on the missing plane, stating that the private jet tried to make contact with air control before communication was lost.

"The PA 46 Malibu, a single turbine engine aircraft was on route from Nantes in France, to Cardiff in Wales, with two people on board when it was lost off radar as Jersey ATC was attempting to make contact," read a statement which appeared on the Mirror.

"The aircraft departed Nantes at 1915 for Cardiff. The aircraft was flying at 5000 feet." read the statement.

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman also broke his silence on the ongoing investigation.

"We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night," Dalman stated.
