Rafael Da Silva: What I Told Angry Paul Pogba Before He Left Manchester United
Paul Pogba famously quit Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson chose Rafael da Silva in midfield over him for a game in 2011. The Brazilian has now revealed the conversation that took place between himself and the former Juventus star after that match!
Despite being considered a hot prospect at the time, Pogba was overlooked by Ferguson for a start against Blackburn Rovers, even though the Red Devils were short on midfielders.
The former United boss decided to play Rafael in the centre of midfield, which surprised many as he was known as a defender.
Not only did it confuse many, but the decision infuriated Pogba, who, three years after the incident, admitted that that event led to his move to Juventus in 2012.
Rafael has now spoken about that day, revealing that he tried to lighten the situation with some humour.
"After that game, Paul asked me why Id played in midfield and not him," he told ESPN.
"He wasn't happy. I joked to him that it was because I had more quality!"
Pogba went on to show great promise at Juventus, where he won eight trophies, including four Serie A titles.
The Frenchman then returned to United in 2016 for what was then a world record transfer fee.
