Premier League Star: Why I Snubbed FC Barcelona
A rising Premier League star has revealed that he had the opportunity to sign for FC Barcelona, and explained why he decided not to join them at the time.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez moved to England this season after spending one year with Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam.
The 2016/17 UEFA Europa League finalist has now revealed that the Blaugrana made an approach for him before he decided to join the Dutch club, a decision he still backs to this day.
"There was an offer on the table (before Ajax) to join Barcelona, to whom I have been linked for a while," Sanchez told Marca Colombia.
"I had won the Copa Libertadores with Atletico Nacional but I did not want to join a club if I would not be playing in their senior team at that point, it would not have felt right.
"I am convinced I would have ended up in Barca's first team because I am confident in my own abilities, but the 50 games I played for Ajax was exactly what I needed at that stage in my career."
The 21-year-old Colombia international has made 26 appearances for Spurs so far this season, and has found the back of the net once.
