Venue: Carrow Road

Virgil van Dijk was back in the line-up for the first since the 2-2 draw with Everton in October 2020 while Diogo Jota was given the nod ahead of Roberto Firmino.

The home side looked lively in the early stages of the encounter and were seemingly playing off the loud crowd at Carrow Road, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the opening 15 minutes.

Jurgen Klopp's men took got into their stride thereafter, but Norwich nearly snatched the opener on the encounter when Teemu Pukki was slipped through on goal but Alisson Becker was on hand to make the save.

Norwich's resistance eventually broke on 26 minutes as Salah deflected Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross into the path of Jota, who fired home close range.

The home side did manage to carve out an opening Milot Rashica caused some trouble down the right flank before picking out Lukas Rupp, who was unable to steer his header on target.

The second carried on in similar fashion but Reds went close to doubling their lead on the hour mark when Sadio Mane played in Konstantinos Tsimikas who saw his strike palmed away by Tim Krul.

Liverpool did get their reward moments later when Firmino turned home Salah's cross just three minutes after replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on 63 minutes.

Salah got his name on the scoresheet with 16 minutes left on the clock as Gibson's clearance fell straight to the Egyptian who took one touch before firing past Krul. He is now the first player in Premier League history to score in five successive opening games.

Norwich did have a couple sights at goal in the closing stages, but the Reds did enough to hold on for the clean sheet on the opening day.
