Date: 21 November 2020
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United got their first Premier League win at Old Trafford this season with a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday night.
United had the first good attempt of the match in the 16th minute. Marcus Rashford drilled a low cross to Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the box and he touched it into Anthony Martial's path. He got in between the two defenders and took the shot first time, but Johnstone got down quickly to push it away.
However, the Red Devils were looking far from their best and the Baggies came close soon after Martial's effort. t's a good throughball into Karlan Grant from Romaine Sawyers to get into the box. He took a touch before firing his shot across goal but David de Gea got fingertips to the ball to send it wide of the far post.
After a rather dour first-half, the game came to life in the second period. Conor Townsend played the ball into Conor Gallagher and he took a touch before Fernandes came across. He stepped across the player and got a touch on the ball but Gallagher went down and the referee pointed to the spot.
However, it was overturned as Fernanded was deemed to have got the ball. Soon after, Rashford cut inside to get away from Semi Ajayi and he curled his shot towards the top-left corner of the net. Sam Johnstone had it covered though and tipped the ball wide of the post.
Soon after, Grady Diangana swung a great cross into the far post from the right and Townsend was unmarked as he chested the ball down. He tok the shot quickly but De Gea made the save with his feet.
The home side counter-attacked following De Gea's save and Mata made a run down the left. He cut inside before putting a cross in which hit Darnell Furlong's arm and the referee pointed to the spot. Fernandes scored at the second attempt after the first penalty effort was saved but illegally so.
In the 65th minute, Hal Robson-Kanu held the ball up allowing Gallagher to make his run down the left. He cut it back to Callum Robinson and he curled a shot to the top-right corner from just outside the box but it bounces off the crossbar.
Johnstone in the West Brom goal then made two brilliant saves in quick succession from Rashford and Harry Maguire respectively to keep his side in the game. But it mattered little as United still came away with the three points.
