Result: Chelsea 0-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Date: 27 January 2021
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea began life under Thomas Tuchel with a goalless draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
The new era at the Blues saw Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz starting from the 3-1 win over Luton Town in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.
Chelsea made a buoyant start, as Jorginho went close from a corner-kick in the opening exchanges before Olivier Giroud took aim from close-range.
The Blues threatened again right on the half-hour mark when Ben Chilwell volleyed past the near corner from a telling ball on the right-side by Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Wolves battled to find rhythm towards halftime as a header from the back-post by Rudiger worked goalkeeper Rui Patricio to a save.
Wolves put on a substitution ahead of the start of the second half in Ki-Jana Hoever who came in the place of Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The Blues had a glorious chance to go ahead on 60 minutes through Ben Chilwell, but he drilled a low ball into the area from Havertz way over the top.
Pedro Neto should’ve given Wolves the lead in the final 20 minutes from a surging run into the area following a one-two, but he saw his shot come off the top of the crossbar.
Chelsea went close to the lead again a little before full-time through a curling strike from the far side of the area by Hudson-Odoi, but Patricio palmed away.
In the end, the two sides opted to settle for a share of the spoils as the Blues began life under Thomas Tuchel.
