Chelsea's stuttering finish to the Premier League season continued after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City on Thursday night.
Result: Chelsea 1-1 Leicester City
Date: 19 May 2022
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Thomas Tuchel made two changes from the FA Cup final loss to Liverpool on Saturday, with N'Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech replacing Mateo Kovavic and Mason Mason.
It was the visitors who got off to fine start when James Maddison carved out some space on the edge of the box before firing into the back of the net.
The home side almost responded immediately when Trevoh Chalobah tried his luck from distance but Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel did well to tip the effort over the crossbar.
The Blues got their reward in the 35th minute as a neat passing move ended with Reece James sending a cross to the far post for Marcos Alonso to volley home with a first-time finish.
Tuchel's charges came out firing in the second half and they could have been on the hour mark when Romelu Lukaku steered his header wide of the mark, before the Belgian turned provider to tee up Christian Pulisic who somehow blazed wide from three yards out.
Tuchel looked to his bench in search of a winning goal, as Cesar Azpilicueta and Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaced Pulisic and Kante for the final 20 minutes.
Chelsea dominated proceedings in the closing stages of the second half, but they struggled to carve out any clear-cut openings and had to settle for a point in the end.
The Blues will finish their campaign against relegated Watford on Sunday evening, while the Foxes entertain Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
