Brighton and Hove Albion claimed their first home Premier League win of the season after stunning Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, although Percy Tau was an unused substitute.
Tau was named on the bench for the third straight league encounter as he was unused substitute in the goalless draw with Fulham on Wednesday.
For Spurs, Gareth Bale returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Harry Kane for only his second league start since re-joining the club.
The opening goal fell to the hosts as a well-worked move ended with Leandro Trossard turning home Pasca Gross's low cross from 10-yards out.
Bale endured a quiet opening to the half, but he came up big at the back for the visitors on 36 minutes after clearing Lewis Dunk's goal-bound header on the line.
While Spurs struggled to carve out a chance in the first, they were nearly two goals down on 57 minutes when Ben White's flick drew a superb save from Hugo Lloris.
The visitors had to wait until the 74th minute for a clear sight on goal, with Carlos Vinicius' effort from the edge of the box tipped wide of the upright by Robert Sanchez.
Brighton should have wrapped up the points with five minutes remaining but Aaron Connolly saw his effort blocked by Toby Alderweireld with the net gaping.
Nevertheless, Brighton were able to see out the latter stages of the second half to claim their first home win of the season to move seven points clear of the drop zone.
