Percy Tau was an unused substitute as Brighton and Hove Albion suffered defeat to Crystal Palace in the M23 Derby on Monday evening.
The Bafana Bafana star was named on the bench yet again for the home side while the Eagles were without the services of talisman Wilfried Zaha through injury.
The hosts enjoyed a lively start to the encounter Yves Bissouma blazed over the top on nine minutes, before Neil Maupay was unable to connect with Joel Veltman's inviting cross in the box minutes later.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 28 minutes when Jean-Philippe Mateta showed great skill to turn home Jordan Ayew's cross with a neat flick at the near post to put the away side ahead.
Brighton enjoyed a lion's share of the possession thereafter but were unable to carve out any clear-cut chances, with Veltman going the closest with an effort from distance 10 minutes before the break.
