Result: Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle United
Date: 18 January 2021
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a brace as Arsenal registered a 3-0 win over Newcastle United in Premier League action on Monday night.
Thomas Partey was back in the side for his third start for the Gunners while Kieran Tierney was restored to the left-back position.
The Gunners nearly opened the scoring on 10 minutes when Bukayo Saka picked out Aubameyang at the far post, but he could only hit the upright with the net gaping
Another chance fell for the Arsenal forward in the 27th minute, with the Gabonese sending a close-range effort over the crossbar with only a defender and Karl Darlow to beat.
The Magpies, meanwhile, failed to register a single effort on target throughout the opening 45 minutes, with Miguel Almiron going closest with a shot from the edge of the area that sailed over the crossbar.
The deadlock was eventually broken five minutes into the second half when Aubameyang ended his frustration with a low finish beyond Darlow after being played in by Partey.
The lead was doubled on the hour mark as Smith-Rowe raced down the left flank before picking out Saka for the sweeping finish from 12-yards out.
The hosts were not done there as Cedric Soares made his way into the box before drilling a cross into Aubameyang who applied a simple touch to finish into the empty net, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) approving the goal.
Three goals were enough on the night as the Gunners moved up to 10th spot while Newcastle remain in 15th after suffering a sixth successive away defeat.
