Arsenal failed to extend their winning run in the Premier League following a goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Thursday evening.
David Luiz and Ainsley Maitland-Niles came in as the Gunners’ two changes from the thumping victory over West Bromwich Albion last time out in the league.
Palace were first to charge forward following the opening minutes when an attempted curler to the left-hand corner from Andros Townsend flew over the top.
Arsenal gradually started to take control of matters thereafter as a curling strike from out wide by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stung the gloves of Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
Luiz should’ve given the Gunners the lead on the half-hour mark from a header at the back-post following an in-swinging corner-kick, but Guaita parried comfortably.
The Gunners were given a let off the hook seven minutes to halftime when a header from James Tomkins off a floating free-kick from Eberechi Eze struck the crossbar.
Christian Benteke continued to keep the host on the back-foot seconds later after a looping header in the centre of the area forced Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno into a smart save.
Arsenal were quickly out of the starting blocks in the second half with a flying shot from the edge of the area from Hector Bellerin hitting the outside of the net.
Mikel Arteta decided to bring in fresh faces from the substitutes bench midway through the second stanza, as Maitland-Niles made way for Nicolas Pepe.
Palace came close to break the deadlock before the closing quarter following a corner, but James McArthur failed to beat Leno whilst Rob Holding directed a pin-point cross wide at the other end.
Both sides enjoyed their fair share of opportunities in the remaining minutes, but lacked the killer punch as it finished goalless in London.
