Result: Arsenal 0-3 Aston Villa
Date: 08 November 2020
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal had a day to forget after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
Villa had a goal ruled out in the early exchanges after Gunners goalie Bernd Leno's view was deemed to have been obstructed by a player in an offside position when John McGinn fired into the roof of the net.
McGinn almost gave a goal away moments later when he under hit his back- pass to goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez with Thomas Partey pouncing but the former Arsenal keeper did well to smother his effort.
The visitors would not be denied in the 25th minute when Bukayo Saka put the ball in to his own net after being put under severe pressure by Trezeguet at the back post after Matt Targett whipped in a dangerous cross after good combination play by Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley and Targett.
Five minutes before the interval, Alexandre Lacazette should have done better when he headed over from Kieran Tierney's superb delivery.
In the 72nd minute, Ollie Watkins was in the right place at the right time to meet a volley from Barkley, who smashed a Douglas Luiz ball from out wide on the right back across the six-yard box for the striker to head home.
The Villains made it three in the 75th minute. Grealish embarked on a mazy run down the left flank, and almost stumbled as Arsenal tried to muscle him off the ball - but he still managed to drag on a pass for Watkins, who latched on in support and drilled low past Leno for the nail in the coffin.
