Premier League Clubs Decide To Close Transfer Window Early
Premier League clubs have voted for a major change in the English transfer window.
Club representatives of the 20 English top flight teams met on Thursday to vote for an early closure of the transfer window going forward, as Sky Sports confirmed.
After a majority decision was reached, this means that, from 2018 onwards, the window will close before the new season starts, with the first to be effected being the 2018 July-August window, which will close on 9 August instead of the usual deadline of 1 September.
This change does not affect other European leagues, and only applies to the buying of players belonging to Premier League clubs.
If other leagues in Europe do not follow suit, EPL clubs could have a major disadvantage due to the potential sale of players to teams in other European leagues without being able to bring in replacements.
What do you make of this major rule change? Should other European leagues follow suit? Have your say in the comments section below.
